Temperature conversion
Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. For example, 20 °C × 1.8 + 32 = 68 °F.
Celsius to Fahrenheit is the conversion US travelers, cooks, and weather-watchers need most — a forecast abroad, an oven set in Celsius, or a science figure that has to land in Fahrenheit. Enter any Celsius temperature and the Fahrenheit value appears instantly, with the formula shown.

How to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit
Formula
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32 °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9Temperature is not a simple multiplier: the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales don't share a zero, so you scale by 9/5 and then add the 32-degree offset. The two scales read the same at −40°.
| Celsius | Fahrenheit |
|---|---|
| -40 °C | -40 °F scales meet |
| 0 °C | 32 °F water freezes |
| 10 °C | 50 °F |
| 20 °C | 68 °F room temp |
| 30 °C | 86 °F |
| 37 °C | 98.6 °F body temp |
| 40 °C | 104.00 °F |
| 100 °C | 212.00 °F water boils |
| 180 °C | 356.00 °F oven |
| 200 °C | 392.00 °F oven |
Worked example
A weather app in Madrid reads 30 °C and you want a feel for it in Fahrenheit. Multiply 30 × 1.8 to get 54, then add 32 for 86 °F — a warm summer day. Body temperature of 37 °C becomes 37 × 1.8 + 32 = 98.6 °F, the familiar normal reading.
Shortcut. Fast approximation: double the Celsius and add 30. 30 °C → 60 + 30 = 90 °F (true value 86), close enough to know whether to grab a jacket.
Good to know
The offset is what trips people up — you can't just multiply, you must add 32 after scaling. A few anchor points make Celsius intuitive without any math: 0° is freezing, 10° is cool, 20° is room temperature, 30° is hot, 37° is body temperature, and 100° is boiling. Oven temperatures are the other big use: 180 °C ≈ 356 °F and 200 °C ≈ 392 °F.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. So 25 °C is 25 × 1.8 + 32 = 77 °F.
What is 20 °C in Fahrenheit?
20 °C equals 68 °F — comfortable room temperature. 25 °C is 77 °F and 30 °C is 86 °F.
Is there a quick Celsius to Fahrenheit trick?
Yes: double the Celsius and add 30 for a close estimate. It runs a few degrees high at warm temperatures but is fine for judging weather.
What is body temperature in Fahrenheit?
Normal body temperature of 37 °C is 98.6 °F. A fever of 38 °C is 100.4 °F.
At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?
At −40 degrees: −40 °C equals −40 °F. It's the one point where the two scales read the same number.
